As part of a previous post here, Swap Shock, I had made a commitment to make changes to my everyday beauty products. One of those products was my deodorant. Studies have put the use of aluminum and other parabens in deodorant into question. While they are just studies and not facts, the results are enough to make me question what I’m using. There are plenty of new brands on the market and it’s kind of exciting to see this new movement! So why not at least give some of these deodorants a try?! There’s not much to lose, except smelling fresh, perhaps…
Deodorant 1: Schmidt’s Rose and Vanilla
I originally heard of this brand through the Think Dirty app. While shopping at Costco one day, I was pleasantly surprised to find a 3 pack there! I was initially hesitant to buy something in bulk that I had yet to try, but I went for it anyway. Upon opening, the scent is pleasant and not too heavy. The color is a light brown which is strange, but I just attributed that to it being more “natural.” While I liked the light smell, this deodorant definitely had a stopping point of effectiveness. Once the day was over, the deodorant was DONE. This was on an average day of movement, so I can’t imagine using it during a workout. Also, over time, I noticed that it was turning the underarms of my clothing yellow. Combine these things, and I really didn’t see the point in using this brand any further. It was definitely my least favorite of the three.
Deodorant 2: Love, Beauty and Planet in Coconut Oil and Ylang Ylang
I received this brand from Fab Fit Fun as an add on in the Spring 2019 box. After ordering, I noticed it was also sold in Target, making it very accessible to everyone. What I liked about this brand was the smell, although this is a pro and a con. Pro is that the smell is so strong that it almost doubled as perfume. As I saw in Target, there are several scents to choose from to suit your preference. The con of the scent is that the smell comes from added fragrance, which is not only unnecessary for effectiveness it is at times, overpowering. It played to my nasal allergies and caused me to sneeze. If you are not affected by allergies, then you will love this brand! I should also add that the texture upon application is like a gel deodorant, which made my armpits feel slimy at first, but that feeling quickly went away during the day.
Deodorant 3: Type A in The Visionary: Crisp Clean Citron
I also received this brand as an add on from Fab Fit Fun. After seeing an ad on Instagram for it, I was instantly curious and had to try it. Why? It comes in a squeeze tube! I have to admit, I was skeptical just because it is so unconventional. But I can honestly say that I love this brand! I am in control of how much I want to squeeze out and with a narrower head, I was able to move it around my armpit where I wished. The scent is not overpowering and it lasts all day, even after a workout. I’m pleased with the citron flavor, but I can’t wait to try the others. And I love the empowering names it gives each version: The Dreamer, The Achiever and The Visionary. It may seem odd at first, but give it a squeeze and you’ll be surprised!
In conclusion, I’m glad I went out of my comfort zone and found a new favorite deodorant! Now get out there and try some for yourself and smell better! We will all thank you 😂
