“Such short little lives our pets have to spend with us, and they spend most of it waiting for us to come home each day. It is amazing how much love and laughter they bring into our lives and even how much closer we become with each other because of them.”
John Grogan, author of ‘Marley And Me’
I’m sure my cat thought I was crazy when I started staying home every day. And the next day. And the day after that. I mean, if there were no back door to make a noise upon coming home, how would she wake up from her 7 hour cat nap to come and greet me?! But honestly, I don’t think my cat knows how much she’s saved me during these trying times. In times of anxiety or fear of the unknown, all I have to do is bring her on my lap and pet her for awhile and I’m immediately calm. I’m pretty sure there is scientific evidence to back that up. That, or the internet said it so it must be true!
Jokes aside, I think there is some serious osmosis going on at our house. At times, I have completely adopted the lazy cat lifestyle, and it’s been fabulous. How great is it that we have been given this chance to slow down and rest? Let that set in for a moment. As humans in the modern world we are programmed to want everything to be bigger, better, faster and readily available. But that has never been the case for our pets. They are perfectly content with simply basking in the love we give them. I for one, have adopted just such a policy with my entire family. We are all slowing down and taking our moments to ourselves to unwind, only to find that the time we spend together is then more fruitful and meaningful. And our cat is spending time with all of us as a whole, learning to love even the kids and laying in the room with us during school time. She truly epitomizes a “class pet!”
I’ve taken a step back to look at all of this, and I’m certain that while a pandemic isn’t ideal, the positive domino effect of what we are all receiving from this can fall into so many aspects of our lives going forward. Marinate in that. Don’t let the frustration of staying home cloud your thoughts. Through those clouds is a light, and that light is within you. Whether it stays with you or you shine it out to the world, there is no light like yours. Let it shine bright, Star Child!!!
Be safe. Be healthy. Be happy!
Much love,
Brooke
